Arachova clings to the southern slope of Mount Parnassus, at an altitude of about a thousand metres, a few kilometres from the ancient sanctuary of Delphi, in the region of Phocis. It is a mountain town of stone houses stacked on a steep hillside, with narrow lanes, a clock tower and cafes, and it has long been known for its woollen rugs, local cheese, wine and winter skiing. Arachova’s churches reflect the same traditions of stone building and mountain life, and the Church of Panagia Arachoviotissa, dedicated to the Virgin of Arachova, belongs to this setting.

The dedication to Panagia, the All-Holy, is one of the most common in the Greek Orthodox world, and in mountain towns the church of the Virgin is often a quiet neighbourhood place of worship. Specific details of this building's history and features are hard to confirm, so it is best approached as part of the wider character of the town rather than as a major monument. As in most Orthodox churches, visitors can expect a small, dim interior lit by lamps and candles, with an iconostasis, painted icons and the smell of incense.

For visitors, the town's best-known church is that of Agios Georgios, Saint George, which stands above the main street and is the focus of the annual festival held around 23 April, when residents wear traditional costume, dance in the square and share food and wine. Easter is also observed with strong local customs. The Church of Panagia fits into the same religious calendar, with services on feast days of the Virgin, especially the Dormition on 15 August, a major holiday across Greece.

Visitors who explore Arachova on foot usually walk up the main street, with its shops selling rugs, honey and herbs, and follow side lanes to viewpoints over the valley of the Pleistos river and the olive groves toward Delphi and the gulf. Along the way they pass small chapels and fountains. Visitors should dress modestly if they enter a church, speak quietly and avoid walking around during services.

The town is a favourite base for exploring Delphi, which lies about ten kilometres to the west, and for skiing at the Parnassos centre in winter. The cafes offer a place to rest after a walk, and local tavernas serve grilled meat and cheese pies. Spring brings wildflowers on the mountain, and autumn is mild and quiet. Arachova is on the road between Athens and Delphi, so it combines easily with the ancient site and its museum.
