Mt. Zas

Mt. Zas, the highest peak in the Cyclades, stands at 1,003 meters and offers a significant hiking experience for visitors to Naxos. The mountain is steeped in mythology, as local tradition holds that Zeus, the king of the Greek gods, was raised in a cave on its slopes. Hikers can choose between two primary routes to reach the summit. The route from the village of Filoti is longer, covering approximately 7 kilometers, but is generally considered less steep. The alternative route, starting from the area near the church of Prokopios, is shorter at about 5.6 kilometers but involves a steeper, more strenuous climb.
