The Pelion Railway, commonly known as the Moutzouris, is a historic narrow-gauge steam train that connects the town of Volos with the mountain village of Milies. Built between 1894 and 1903 by Italian engineer Evaristo de Chirico, the railway features one of the narrowest tracks in the world, measuring just 60 centimeters wide. This engineering feat offers a unique glimpse into early 20th-century transportation history, set against the lush backdrop of Mount Pelion.

The journey covers the scenic mountain section between Ano Lechonia and Milies, taking approximately 90 minutes. Passengers travel through dense forests, crossing the distinctive De Chirico and Kalorema bridges, which are notable for their metal construction. The route provides a peaceful and immersive experience, allowing visitors to appreciate the natural beauty of the region while riding in vintage carriages.

The train operates seasonally from mid-April to October. During the peak summer months of July and August, it runs daily, while outside of this period, services are typically limited to weekends and public holidays. Tickets can be purchased online through the Hellenic Train website or collected at the Ano Lechonia Station. Adult fares are approximately €10 for a one-way ticket and €18 for a return journey, with reduced rates available for children.

Ano Lechonia Station is located about 12 kilometers from Volos and is accessible by car or local bus. Ample parking is available at the station for those driving. This heritage railway offers a relaxing and nostalgic way to explore the Pelion region, combining historical interest with the tranquility of the Greek landscape.
